When the foot hits the ground everything changes.  There are many components to foot pain and they can include problems with your low back.  If you are also having low back pain do not forget to mention this to the physical therapist.

The strength of the knee and hip muscles also plays an important part in foot pain.  Weak gluteus medius and weak vastus medialis muscles.

The physical therapist will also manually measure the strength of your ankle plantarflexion, dorsiflexion, inversion, and eversion motions.  And don't forget the toes.  The intrinsic muscles of the foot play an important role in proper functioning of the foot while walking and running.
